The Environment

  • David Bellamy Award scheme

Blue Sky Resorts are proud to announce that Heathergate Country Park has been awarded the coveted "Gold" Conservation Award from David Bellamy after participating in his scheme to recognise Holiday parks that operate under the best environmental practices. We were judged on a range of issues from wildlife preservation, to our use of natural and sustainable materials in developing the Park. The team at Heathergate are very proud to join our sister park, Nostell Priory in this very exclusive group of environmentally friendly holiday parks.

  • Wildlife

While redeveloping Heathergate, we have been conscious of our responsibility to the variety of wildlife on and around the Park. Improvements have included the creation of a fantastic pond which is home not only to Goldfish and Koi Carp, but frogs and many smaller insects and a variety of plant life. We have also created a nature trail with nesting boxes and "Beastie Hotels" which is now a great habitat for wildlife. We even spotted a red squirrel the other day!

  • Rewards

As part of its commitment to being environmentally responsible, the team at Heathergate have introduced what we call the "Green Pound" scheme. Under this scheme, Holiday Home Owners can earn discounts of up to £50 a year on the rental for their pitch by adopting energy-saving or waste-reducing practices. For example, they can exchange their normal light bulbs for low-energy ones, use the rotary clothes line instead of a tumble dryer and install water butts to collect rainwater.

  • Emissions

We have acquired an electric-powered hospitality buggy which the park concierge, Peter Hind, will use for deliveries .This is also used to transport holidaymakers who require assistance around the site, to cut down on the use of fuel powered vehicles.

  • Recycling

The park boasts its own collection point for recyclable materials. This includes banks for glass and plastic bottles, paper and cardboard as well as a storage facility for supermarket plastic bags. Residents can help themselves to these when planning a shopping trip. Our shop uses local suppliers to cut down on unnecessary transport. Even the milk comes in good old fashioned glass bottles!
